If Someone Told You to Jump Off of a Bridge...

I have always been tough.  (My brother is eight years older than me.  Being tough was required for survival.)  I have always had a smart mouth.  (My family communicates using sarcasm and wit.  "We pick on you because we love you!" should be the motto at the top of our family crest, but I'm not sure how to translate that into Latin.)  I have never backed-down from a dare, challenge, or fight even if it's in my best interest to do so.  (I can't find a reasonable explanation for this one.  It's just hardwired into me.  What can I say?  I like adventure.)  These three things combined have created an attitude of invincibility within me that has been my strength and downfall for pretty much my entire life.  (I promise to share some of  those stories in future posts.)

So, why did I decide to start a blog?  Do I really think that I am so interesting that others would love to read what I write?  No.  Am I so wise that my blogs will be full of profound thoughts and musings that will change the lives of my readers?  No.  Is my life so amazing that people across the internet will take time out of their busy lives to read my blog?  Uh...maybe.

You want to know why I'm doing this?  I'll tell you why.  Because someone told me to write a blog.  Simple as that. Someone told me to.  (Lame. I know, but it's the truth.)

Every time I use this reason (or excuse) to do something, a scolding voice from some deep recess of my mind nags at me saying, "If someone told you to jump off of a bridge, would you do it!?" Now, every little kid who has heard these words has mumbled, "No," and placated whatever adult asked the question in the first place.  That's just not my style.  Somehow, my mind has always interpreted this question as a point of discussion rather than the end of one as it is intended.  Questions uncontrollably pop into my mind like, "Well, it depends.  How tall is the bridge?  Is there water under the bridge or sharp, jagged rocks? Did my friend jump before I did?  If so, did they survive the fall?  Did they endure any bodily harm at all?  If my friend did get hurt, then was like a sprained ankle or a broken femur?  Are we bungee jumping?  I've been bungee jumping before, and it was kinda fun.  Can I go bungee jumping again?"

Just in case you're wondering:  Yes, I was a teacher's worst nightmare.

Even though I am doing this because someone told me to, this blog does have a personal purpose that is all my own.  It's purpose is to chronicle the change that is happening in my life.  It's deep.  It's profound.  I don't understand most of what's going on, but it's good and I'd like to share it with you.
